"I found a backup plan" I don't know what the original plan was. I think that that the abstract excuse has only recently become bad in matt's eyes. (Hating your brother/anyone is as murdering them, to those who understand it biblicaly.) There is a bad excuse for each person's 'death'. But who's bones? I think they are the bones of the people that he has stabbed in the back or hated. Being that the bones are now bones it suggests that they have been in there for a long time. Matt emphasizes "Bones" as he sing it, which makes me think he isn't scared of them now. I have no good explanation for the new black shoes. Reason:īon Voyage is french for "Good voyage" or "pleasant trip". The essence of two sides to every situation, every story, and every dilemma in life is what lays embedded in this song, so Thiessen can show you the brighter side and accept you through your darkest times. “The Lining is Silver,” appeals to me because the lyrics deliver a simple yet relatable message through clever metaphors. Thiessen writes that it does not matter which future you choose to live for, when things get rough there will always be at least one good thing to pull you through if you let it. When comparing the forests to the cemeteries, he has finally distinguished two different types of future: a future full of promise, possibilities, potential and a future where death is inevitable and aspirations are futile. When Thiessen asks, “isn’t it nice to know that the lining is silver.that we’re golden?” he’s really asking aren’t we lucky that we have a silver lining instead of nothing at all? And isn’t it nice to know we are youthful and full of potential? Instead of creating a song that showed how disappointed or frustrated he was that more people did not live life with these lessons, he gives a happier, laid-back approach which implies that Thiessen assumes these are morals that will be learned eventually. He starts to explain why he’s thrown out all of the misconceptions he owned of others but then cuts himself off and says bye! As if to say, I changed and the reason why does not matter, I’m just relieved to let that part of me go. In this song, Thiessen plays a boy who is finally maturing by gaining a new perspective (new black shoes) and accepting his flaws that he previously hid from himself and others. "The Lining Is Silver." The Bird and the Bee Sides. “I found my new black shoes while cleaning out the bones left in my closet…Well I found a list of flaws that I saw in myself and other people and I threw it away because - Bon Voyage! Isn't it nice to know that the lining is silver? Isn't it nice to know that we're golden? When it all falls apart and you can't see the forest for the cemeteries, isn’t it nice to know that the lining is silver?”
